Women Build is coming to Plainfield!
Habitat’s volunteer program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities.
Why WOMEN BUILD?
Women have the capability and determination to be part of Habitat for Humanity’s solution to eliminate poverty housing. Developed through the partnership between Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity, this initative brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills and then use those skills to build simple, decent affordable houses in Greater Plainfield.
Plainfield Habitat will host our first annual Women Build in May 2012. Coordinated by the Central New Jersey Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., under the leadership of their President Mrs. La Rhetta Bradley.

No experience necessary! If you don’t have any construction skills, don’t worry! Many women come to Women Build sites with no construction skills at all and still make a great impact. Training is also provided through our specially scheduled How-To Workshops at Lowes. You can get involved with Women Build and never enter a construction site. In addition to the workshops at Lowe's, our local Habitat affiliate can use your help with food preparation, travel or office support. For instance, check out Team Nites.
About National Women Build WeekNational Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day to the effort to eliminate poverty housing. Women make a difference in their communities by building homes and raising awareness of local housing needs. The national event is typically held the week in May leading up to Mother’s Day. These dates are significant to many volunteers, as single-parent families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing.
UpcomingWe encourage you to get connected to our future events by signing up to participate in our local affiliate's next Women Build project, currently planned for the second week of May 2012. >> Interested? Join our Women Build email list.
Valuable support from Lowe’sIn addition to sponsoring special events like National Women Build Week, Lowe’s underwrites the overall Women Build program. By 2013, Lowe’s will have contributed nearly $40 million to Habitat for Humanity. Employees at Lowe’s stores also conduct how-to workshops for our women volunteers. These trainings teach new construction skills that our volunteers can use to help us eliminate poverty housing. >> To view a list of these local workshops.
