Why Volunteer?
"Poverty is most powerful when it makes people anonymous."
Individuals, churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem – decent housing for all.
Serving takes time. Time to listen and understand because needs are not numbers and statistics, they are people with names. As long as we stand an arms length away from our neighbor, we will never know their name, their story, or their reality. Education and experience are the keys to wisdom, and we want to serve wisely.
By taking the time to work together, build relationships, and learn about the complexities of housing issues, we believe we will be able to impact our community like never before. Transformation starts small and grows one person and one family at a time. It serves and learns and responds with small ripples of compassion that grow into tidal waves of change.
Today, Habitat for Humanity International has built more than 500,000 houses. In the Greater Plainfield area, thanks to efforts of our committed volunteers, we are serving 33 families with solid plans to build more homes and serve more families.
PARTNER with us to serve. Serve alongside our partner families. Come serve with other committed volunteers. Now more than ever, help build it!
