716 East Sixth Street

Our 34th home is a brand new construction of a 3-bedroom single-family home on a shady residential street in Plainfield.  This house will be our 6th within a 3-block stretch of East Sixth Street, adding to the transformation of this neighborhood.

The home will be sold for under $150,000 with a zero-interest 20-30/year fixed mortgage. The contract will have a 10-year deed restriction that allows modest equity upon resale, but mandates that the home be sold to another qualifying low-income family.

Funding for this project comes from our dedicated individual donors.  No business sponsors or corporate supporters have pledged to-date.  Various church and corporate groups have pledged for our "Adopt-A-Day", including Infineum LP, Our Lady of Lourdes in Mountainside, Scotch Plains/Fanwood High School, and Westfield High School Habitat Club.  The homeowner family has already contributed 250 hours of sweat equity labor. Pro bono professional services have been donated by attorney Charles Whelan, Esq., architect Jerry Lane of Seigel Architects in Chatham, plumber Chuck DeTorres of King George Plumbing, and our electrician crew.

The Lyles family has been selected as the new homeowners. We are happy to welcome Simone with their two children. Simone works as a cook in a local nursing home. The construction work began in early-July 2011, and the home should be ready to welcome its new owners by the Spring of 2012.
