| THE APPLICATION PROCESS
There are two factors that affect the process:
- the great need for affordable housing, with so many families
applying
- the time it takes volunteers to build a house
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Families contact GPHFH to learn if they qualify
- The yearly income must be at least $45,000 a year (to meet the
costs of a mortgage, taxes, insurance, and utilities)
- The family should be Plainfield area residents
- The family must be willing and able to work
with our volunteers on GPHFH houses
(500 hours for a 2 adult family
250 hours for a single parent family)
If a number of partner families are already waiting
for a house, there will be a moratorium on applications. If GPHFH
is accepting applications, then qualifying families
are invited to an Applicants Meeting, followed by a series of interviews
by Family Selection Committee members. The committee makes recommendations
to the GPHFH trustees, based on greatest need. The recommended families
become partners in the program and start working their required
sweat equity hours.
The need is very great and sometimes the wait for
a house is long, but with committed help from the community, we
will continue to build for area families who need a decent, affordable
place to live. |
