Faith & Community Groups
Church Partnerships are a keystone for Plainfield Habitat. When congregations join together to support a Habitat house, the new homeowners are not the only ones who benefit. Church members who work together on a Habitat project report to us that they feel they receive as much as they give.
Church Partnership Program
Since few houses of worship can afford to give the entire cost of building a Habitat home, most congregations work together with a group of other churches to raise construction funds and solicit donations of materials and services for the project. These congregations also provide volunteers who work side by side with the partner family as they complete their sweat equity.
Why should your church become a Habitat church partner?
- Building a Habitat house nurtures faith by putting it into action.
- Working together as Habitat vounteers strengthens relationships within your church community.
- Each project offers an oppurtunity to minister to a local family in need.
- The building of a Habitat house by a group of churches becomes a powerful witness to our faith for others.
How does a Habitat Church Partnership work?
The participating congregations agree to raise $50,000 or more to offset the costs associated with building a home, including material and land. This total can include money, material or services. The participating churches also send volunteers out on site. At the end of the build, the churches are invited to participate in planning and leading our moving dedication ceremony.
How much does my congregation have to commit to the project?
Each church decides how much it can afford. Your congregation should make a commitment to contribute funds and/or materials and services according to its own resources. Past groups have donated funds from their mission budget, scheduled special offerings like Holiday collections, or organized fund-raising events for the project.
Are there other ways for our congregation to get involved?
Yes, of course!
- Become a "Covenant Church" with Habitat's mission. As a "Covenant Church", you are asked to covenant with our chapter of Habitat to work in a practical "hands-on” partnership to make the dream of decent shelter a reality for families both here and abroad. We would like you to pray regularly for us, support our efforts with an annual financial gift, and to assist in as many ways as your congregation would feel comfortable with. Some of those ways are listed on the Covenant Church agreement form. In this partnership, your congregation will annually be recognized as a foundation of our support and mission- on our website, newsletters, and annual report.
- Help us RAISE Support! Many groups within a congregation are constantly looking for a good cause to benefit from their activities and efforts. Designate Habitat as your church group's cause! And see our FUNDRAISING page for more ideas.
